Eve Energy, the Chinese number four lithium-ion battery cell manufacturer, has opened the two first phases of the planned 600Ah+ battery cell mass production in a 60GWh and ¥10.8 billion ($1.5 billion) mega factory in Jingmen City, China.
This is currently the industry’s largest single energy storage factory in the world, with a single line capacity exceeding 15GWh.
The flagship product is the new 628Ah battery cell, each with a single-cell energy of 2,009kWh and an energy efficiency exceeding 96% at 25°C. Eve Energy is the first company to mass produce this large-capacity battery in the so-called Mr. Big production unit.
In cooperation with Professor Yang Hanxi from Wuhan University, Eve Energy has developed a new electrochemical collection model. Inspired by the ‘low drag’ design found in automotive engineering, optimising the thickness of the collection medium, the positioning of the tabs, and the shapes and sizes of the terminals is made. This creates a high-speed road for electrons. The reduced internal resistance of the battery cells lowers the risk of heat generation.
From a commercial point of view, the advantages of large-capacity battery cells lie in their ability to reduce the cost and integration complexity of energy storage systems, improve energy density and safety, and reduce the use of components in the pack stage. However, Eve Energy admits that challenges remain, particularly concerning thermal management and overall efficiency for such battery cells.
A central point of the new 600Ah+ cell is the intelligent battery cell technology. High-precision source perception is used to capture key signals in real time, monitoring gases, temperatures and other critical information. Once an anomaly is detected, timely warnings and defensive measures are taken.
Eve Energy has specially built the 60GWh Super Energy Storage Plant for the Mr. Big cell. The plant, of teh same name, employs over 80 advanced industry technologies, featuring automated production across the entire process.
