The field of nanotechnology is a vast landscape that brings together elements of material science, chemistry, physics, and applied engineering to tackle challenges and create solutions that exist at one billionth of a metre (a nanometre). This wide scope field includes everything from creating ultra-thin and ultra-small materials (nanomaterials), to fabrication methods that can create nanoscale features in materials, to characterisation methods that can provide nanoscale resolution and see ultra-small features.
