AIS (Advanced Insulation Systems), a British Gloucester-based company, founded in 2007, has rapidly become a global leader in advanced materials for demanding fire protection purposes, from process industry, including oil and gas production, to maritime products. One important and fast-growing application for AIS is solutions for battery protection.
Through the acquisition of the Centre for Automotive and Power Systems Engineering (CAPSE) Ltd in South Wales, AIS will significantly enhance the company’s battery testing capabilities. The new unit will strengthen AIS’s position in the battery safety industry, establishing it as Europe’s largest battery testing and material development centre. This R&D centre includes the largest battery pack testing capability in Europe. AIS will now have resources to further develop and deliver its battery protection materials to meet the highest standards for safety, performance, and reliability.
Andrew Bennion, CEO of AIS said: “We are excited to welcome the new battery testing site to the AIS family. This acquisition will create a number of jobs in the local area and represents a major step forward in our commitment to the battery safety industry and ensures that we remain at the forefront of innovation in battery protection.”
Rebecca Evans, Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy & Planning commented: “I’m particularly pleased that the work being conducted at the facility aligns so well with our strategies for decarbonisation, industry and innovation.”
Rachel Elias-Lee, University of South Wales Chief Finance and Operating Officer said: “We are incredibly proud to see CAPSE Ltd transition to the next stage of its journey with AIS. This milestone is a testament to the industry driven research and innovation originally fostered at University of South Wales. We are confident that AIS will continue to bring significant impact to the future of battery technology.”
