UK battery cell maker Amte Power, which manufactures lithium-ion and sodium-ion cells, claimed to be the first European business to receive UN38.3 transportation testing certification for a sodium-ion cell.
The accreditation for its Ultra Safe sodium-ion product allows it to access global markets, it said. UN38.3 certification has been adopted by international regulators and authorities as an essential standard for safely transporting cells. It includes identification and classification, testing/qualification requirements, design and packaging/shipping obligations.
Alan Hollis, CEO at Amte Power, said its Ultra Safe cells have been incorporated into 12 and 43V battery packs developed by AceOn for mobile energy storage. “These are believed to be the first UK-developed battery packs based on sodium-ion,” he said.
They were due to be demonstrated powering an inverter system at the Renewable Energy Workshop and Mobile Solar Power Energy Storage System Demonstration (REWED) today.
