A research hub opened in Australia aims to develop advanced energy storage technologies including batteries that will enable the transition towards a sustainable, reliable, and secure power supply.
The ARC Research Hub for Integrated Energy Storage Solutions at UNSW university in Sydney will look at developing batteries for extreme environments as well as researching structural supercapacitors and fuel cells.
Led by professor Joe Dong, the research hub’s goal is to integrate storage solutions into existing energy networks and applications using novel storage monitoring, control and optimisation technologies.
Research conducted at the hub will bring together experts from universities and industry to develop commercially-viable methods to capture surplus electricity from Australia’s renewable resources.
The new research hub will involve 14 participating organisations and international collaborations providing a total input of AUS$12 million ($9 million).
