United States battery maker Bren-Tronics Energy Systems has closed its plant in Phoenix – just four years after investing $10m and hiring 40 people to produce lithium-ion battery cells in the former Energiser plant.
The New York-based company moved to the Alachua plant on the Phoenix Commercial Park in 2010 after receiving research funds from the US army and air force.
An on-site and online auction is being held to sell off equipment from the plant including everything from battery manufacturing and assembly equipment to more general plant items such as air compressors.
The global manufacturer of advanced portable power systems for military applications created 40 new jobs at the plant between 2010-2012 before closing it in November 2014.
Its products are used by the US, NATO and government forces around the world.
