Briggs & Stratton, US-based power and battery maker, is collaborating with seven construction OEMs for one of its swappable battery platforms for European rental companies.
The companies it will be working with have a broad portfolio of tools for construction.
This includes compaction saws, concrete trowels, floor and table saws as well as powerbanks, etc.
The company, which manufactures lithium-ion batteries, has decided to use the Vanguard Si1.5 for the programme.
Battery runtime and fast charging were key considerations in why it was chosen, which for the battery is 1.5kWh, it said.
The battery also is interchangeable across applications and brands, according to John Hill, group vice president at Bartell Global, one of the companies involved.
Briggs & Strattion say it believes that the standardisation of battery systems across different uses is key to the energy transition.
It also reduces asset complexity and fleet management, as well as lowering the total cost of ownership, which the company claim is a significant cost for rental companies.
Paul Bramhall, director electrification/rental EMEA, Briggs & Stratton, said: “We see many OEMs investing in electrification and adopting our lithium-ion batteries. At the same time, we speak to numerous rental fleet managers who are unsure which system to choose to optimize their operations and reduce total costs of ownership. With our Si1.5 swappable battery, we have a solution that could be a game-changing driver of the energy transition, enabling small to mid-sized OEMs to collaborate, expand their market share, and at the same time support rental businesses in achieving their goals.”
