Capstone Turbine has secured a deal to supply four microturbines to an offshore oil and gas producer in Southern Vietnam.
The four C200 C1D2 microturbines will run on wellhead gas that flows through the offshore platforms, which eliminates the need for fuel to be shipped to the platform. The microturbines are certified for use in hazardous areas, have a small footprint and require little maintenance.
The energy systems will be used on platforms located in the Cuu Long basin that are expected to have an oil flow of 50 000 barrels, worth around US$5 million, each day.
The microturbines are due to be installed in May 2014, for commissioning in 2014.
