U.S. energy storage system developer SunEdison is buying 1,000 vanadium flow batteries from Imergy Power Systems as it moves into the Indian market.
Reports state SunEdison is buying Imergy’s ESP 30 systems to build microgrids to store solar energy for round the clock electricity supply in rural India.
California-based Imergy’s batteries can provide 120 kilowatt-hours of storage and have an output power of 30-50KW.
SunEdison aims to develop 5,000 microgrids by 2020 to store solar energy for 20 million people, with the first 1,000 to be developed within three years.
