Corvus Energy has signed a deal to provide lithium-ion polymer Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) for nine retrofit hybrid cranes (RTGs) in the Port of Shanghai, China.
The nine hybrid cranes will bring the overall total to 21 hybrid RTG’s at the port in a bid to cut diesel fuel emissions.
The ESS can re-charge from regenerative braking energy when a container is lowered and be operated on “full electric” battery power during traditional idling times.
The 21 RTGs operating with Corvus ESS technology will reportedly eliminate 5,300 metric tonnes of CO2 per year equal to removing 1,143 cars from the road each year.
