Eaton has launched a range of 2 and 2.25 MW grid-tied power inverters called Power Xpert for use with grid-scale energy storage.
The Power Xpert will convert AC power to DC and back again so power can be drawn from an attached battery system.
“The Power Xpert storage inverter scales up the size of the (energy storage) platform, providing customers a more cost-effective solution,” said Chris Thompson, business unit manager at Eaton.
The inverter can be used with renewable energy sources to relieve intermittency issues, provide load shifting services, ramp rate control and frequency regulation to improve grid stability. The system responds rapidly to mitigate frequency changes by moving power in and out of the grid in less than eight milliseconds.
Power Xpert provides reactive power support to accommodate for line voltage and sags or surges in frequency.
