Lead Battery 360° (LB360) has welcomed its first eight participants into its new certification initiative, designed to promote sustainable and responsible practices in lead battery production and sourcing.
The group includes manufacturing and recycling facilities across Europe, North America, Asia, and Mexico, operated by Clarios, East Penn Manufacturing, Ecobat and Boliden. Each site has signed a letter of commitment and will undergo third-party audits over the next year to verify alignment with Lead Battery 360° standards.
Facilities must either fully meet all performance expectations or adopt a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) for any non-critical areas deemed partially compliant. Certified participants are encouraged to promote their status as leaders in responsible battery production.
Dr Andy Bush, executive director of ILA, said, “For lead batteries to continue to be a product of choice it is important that companies can demonstrate they are committed to responsible manufacturing and sourcing practices. So this is a very encouraging start to the new independent certification process. We are hopeful that many more sites will apply to become participants in the next 12 months.”
