Energy Vault Holdings has successfully brought the 57MW two-hour Cross Trails Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) into commercial operation in Scurry County, Texas. The project was finished ahead of schedule and will operate under a 10-year offtake agreement with Gridmatic, an AI-driven power marketer.
Achieving early mechanical completion, the company met all construction milestones through efficient project management and collaboration among engineering, procurement, and construction teams. The system is now live, delivering energy and ancillary services to enhance renewable power generation and strengthen grid resilience in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region.
The Cross Trails BESS integrates Energy Vault’s full suite of hardware, software and services, marking the first deployment of its second-generation B-VAULT AC product. This advanced system enables rapid and cost-effective delivery while ensuring high availability in ERCOT. VaultOS, Energy Vault’s proprietary Energy Management System, is incorporated to oversee and optimise BESS operations.
“This milestone demonstrates the unique ability of the Energy Vault team to execute complex energy storage deployments with speed, quality and attractive economics,” said Marco Terruzzin, chief revenue officer at Energy Vault. “Completing Cross Trails ahead of schedule and achieving ERCOT certification early is a testament to our team’s expertise and the commitment of the entire leadership team to delivering long-term, sustainable shareholder value under the ‘Own & Operate’ growth strategy announced in 2024.”
