Industrial-scale energy storage firm EnerSys has secured a molten salt “thermal” battery deal to open up its reach into the aerospace and defence markets.
The US company has completed the buying of certain assets of Florida based lithium silicon cobalt disulfide chemistry company The Enser Corporation.
EnerSys will also expand its capabilities in the design and development, automated manufacturing and testing of thermal batteries for the US Department of Defense and allied militaries.
Enser’s technology is currently used in electronic, guidance and weapon systems applications.
“This acquisition is a natural extension of our capabilities in the aerospace and defence markets,” said Michael J. Schmidtlein, executive vice president and chief financial officer of EnerSys.
