US battery company EnerVenue said its nickel-hydrogen batteries have passed UL 9540A safety testing for fire propagation. The company also certified the 560W/1200Wh battery, known as Energy Storage Vessel, to UL 1973.
UL 9540A testing includes progressively larger-scale fire tests to evaluate the risk of thermal runaway and fire propagation in battery energy storage systems (ESS).
EnerVenue said its batteries completed UL 9540A testing at cell level with no flames observed during induced thermal runaway.
This test method is a recognised standard for evaluating the thermal runaway fire propagation risk of ESS.
The UL 1973 safety standard applies to stationary batteries and certifies the ability of a battery system to operate safely under normal and abnormal conditions relative to electrical, mechanical and environmental safety.
