Extronics’ UPS range has received ATEX approval for use in areas with an explosive atmosphere, within Europe.
Two machines from Extronics— a UK-based engineering company that specialises in explosion proof equipment— have been approved. The first is the iUPS200, which received Zone 2 classification, meaning the back up system can be used in ‘an area in which an explosive mixture is not likely to occur in normal operation and if it occurs it will exist only for a short time’.
The iUPS200 is designed to provide backup power for up to 120 minutes, at 70 W full load, for critical equipment such as wireless network equipment and automated systems for hazardous process areas such as offshore platforms.
The second UPS to receive approval is the iUPS101, for ATEX Zone 1, meaning the UPS can be used in ‘an area in which an explosive mixture is likely to occur in normal operation’. This unit provides up to 9 kVA for 60 minutes or back up 230 VAC power for up to 35 minutes, at 3 KVA full load, the modular design allows great flexibility for a wide variety of solutions.
