Chinese firm HiNa launched a series of sodium-ion batteries for automotive applications called ‘HiNa Battery· Haixing’ at an event on 28 March.
The K150 and K210 battery series are aimed at short-distance transportation applications; the K280 and K350 battery series were developed for the logistics transportation sector.
With low energy density and cheaper materials, sodium-ion is seen as a great alternative to lithium-ion for use in lower-end four wheel and two-wheel vehicle applications.

HiNa said its cells exceed 165Wh/kg, can be fully charged in 20-25 minutes and have a 8,000+ cycle life in fast charging mode. They also claim the cells have a stable discharge performance at -40°C to 45°C.
Sodium-ion in vehicles
HiNa was founded in 2017, launching its first sodium-ion battery that year. It has since seen its technology used in electric vehicles and energy storage power stations.
In February 2023, Sehol, a joint venture between JAC and Volkswagen Anhui, used HiNa’s sodium-ion cells in its E10X vehicle.
In December 2022, HiNa began production at its sodium-ion battery production line in Fuyang, Anhui province, China. The plant is jointly supported by state-owned power company China Three Gorges Corporation’s two affiliates, as well as the Fuyang city government.
