Demand response provider KiWi Power has been shortlisted finalists for the 2013 Ashden Awards, the UK’s leading green energy prize.
KiWi Power is among 26 finalists for this year’s Ashden Awards, which since 2001 have showcased practical, local energy solutions that cut carbon, reduce poverty and improve people’s lives in the UK and developing world. The firm has moved a step closer to winning up to £20,000 in prize money at a ceremony at London’s Royal Geographical Society on 20 June 2013.
Yoav Zingher co-founded KiWi Power to work with commercial and industrial clients, including NHS-run hospitals, to enable them to benefit from a National Grid scheme which pays companies to turn down non-essential power during spikes in demand.
This helps reduce strain on the national electricity supply while potentially reducing CO2 emissions by reducing the use of carbon-intensive peaking power stations.
Zingher said: “KiWi Power is thrilled to be a finalist for these awards, which showcases the increasing awareness for smart solutions to our energy challenges, and that business can be a driver for change for the better.”
In February this year, KiWi Power was announced as a provider of full-service demand response programmes to UK government agencies through Government Procurement Service (GPS).
Under the terms of the agreement, KiWi Power will provide demand response services to central government and public sector facilities, including NHS trusts and hospitals, Ministry of Defence, Department for Transport, universities and local councils across the UK for the next four years.
