US start-up Unigrid Battery said it received an investment from LG Technology Ventures for the development of its sodium-ion batteries.
It did not disclose the size of the investment from the venture capital investment arm of the LG Group, but said: “Unigrid is currently in the midst of ramping up production to meet immediate customer demands. This new financing will help the company accelerate its product commercialisation and build upon existing industry partnerships to deploy its technology for new energy storage and e-mobility applications.”
It claims on its website its anodes offer the option to design batteries for high power:
- charging at >10C rates, even at subzero temperatures
- high energy density of >450 Wh/L, doubling the energy density of conventional sodium-ion.
Unigrid Battery is a spin-off from the University of California, San Diego.
