UK-based energy company Integrals Power has partnered with Euro Manganese, the Canada-based battery materials firm, to develop a sustainable supply chain for its lithium-manganese-ferro-phosphate (LMFP) cathode active materials.
This will involve high purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM) being sent from its facility in the Czech Republic to Integral’s UK pilot line.
Euro Manganese claim that it would be the only source of the critical material within Europe, which will be produced through recycling old tailings from a decommissioned mine.
It is said that the partnership will reduce the battery sector’s reliance on China, where 90% of HPMSM production is based currently.
Integrals said this agreement will enable it to scale up capacity from 20 tonnes a year currently to mass production as its LMFP technology is commercialised, especially for use in EV batteries.
Testing to find out if the HPMSM is compatible with Integral’s LMFP production process is set for the third quarter.
If testing is successful, the critical material will be supplied for seven years, with the option to renew for additional successive four-year terms.
Behnam Hormozi, founder and CEO, Integrals Power, said, “Our collaboration with Euro Manganese is a major step forward in securing a reliable, traceable, and local supply of high-purity manganese – a key ingredient in our LMFP cathode materials. This partnership enhances Integrals Power’s ability to scale cathode production sustainably while supporting the growing demand for high-performance battery technologies across UK and Europe. It aligns perfectly with our mission to build a resilient, transparent supply chain that underpins the energy transition.”
