Danish renewable energy company Ørsted is to install a Tesla Megapack battery energy storage system co-located with its Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm near Norfolk, England.
The company said the Tesla Megapack 600MWh/300MW BESS is a natural add-on to its offshore wind power generation business and will provide complementary services and revenue profile while supporting the continued build-out of the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The BESS will be one of the biggest in Europe when complete. It is expected to be operational by end-2026. No financial details were given.
Ørsted has a total of 660MW (1,850MWh) of storage projects in operation or under construction in the UK and US, including the latest project. It is developing a storage opportunity pipeline of over 2GW across the UK, Ireland, and the US, it said.
Separately, Tesla shareholders approved CEO Elon Musk’s $56 billion pay package at Thursday’s annual shareholders’ meeting.
