Critical power specialist Powertecnique has supplied three generators to a Morrisons distribution centre in southwest England.
Powertecnique worked alongside main contractors NG Bailey to design a bespoke solution for the Bridgwater, Somerset site, including a dual purpose 2MVA generator, two 150kVA units and an 11,000 litre fuel tank that can run up to 24 hours on full load.
The larger dual-purpose generator is configured to export 1400 kilowatts of power back to the grid, as a short term operating reserve (STOR) by remote start. This service creates additional revenue sources for power users, typically generating around £7000/MW ($10,500) per year plus fuel and operating costs.
Dave Watkin, hardware account manager at Powertecnique said: “At certain times, the grid can be short on power and this generator can feed in power back to the grid at a good rate.
“As part of the process, the distribution network owner Western Power had to witness test the larger generator to ensure that it was suitable and the customer can remotely start it from a PC, anywhere in the world so there is no downtime or delay to the STOR.”
