Flow battery maker Redflow Limited said an Australian family is now powering their home without relying on a grid connection thanks to the installation of a 60kWh zinc-bromine flow battery system.
Redflow said the ZCell-based energy storage system— the company’s biggest Australian residential system to date— gives the Bates family “uninterrupted power, grid independence and no power bills”.
The system, comprising six Redflow 10kWh flow batteries and a nearly 19kW (72 panel) solar PV array, has been installed at the Bates’ 400-square metre single-storey four-bedroom home, about 2.7 kilometres from mains power in Queensland, by Off-Grid Energy Australia.
Breeann Bates said: “Costwise, the difference between running mains power to the new house site and setting up the solar-powered energy storage system was negligible.”
Redflow launched its ZCell home battery in March, saying the battery can ‘timeshift’ solar power from day to night, store off-peak power for peak demand periods and support off-grid systems.
