French Saft Groupe’s newest Ni-Cd ultra low maintenance battery for aircrafts has passed in-flight tests.
Saft’s 435CH6 ULM is a 24V, 43 Ah battery designed to be the airplane’s main power source alongside standby and auxiliary functions.
The battery has passed the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness standards for 1800 hours of in-flight operations before required maintenance.
The battery has been tested in WestJet Encore’s Bombardier’s Q400 NextGen fleet. Prior to these tests the battery timeframe was 200 hours.
