Spearmint Energy, the US-based battery energy storage system (BESS) owner and operator, unveiled a BESS-themed art installation at one of its commercially operating BESS in the US.
Artwork by UK-based street and mural artist Sophie Mess has been wrapped around the company’s Revolution project, a 150MW/300MWh BESS in West Texas, it said.
It depicts a floral pattern, which Spearmint claim is a nod to biological carbon sequestration and the importance of nature preservation.
Overall, twenty-two mural panels were installed on the west-face of Revolution’s battery modules with one panel facing south, it said.
The artwork also features Spearmint’s slogan, “join the revolution” which it said is part of a broader call to action.
Spearmint said it worked closely with the battery manufacturer to ensure the art installation would not affect the safe operation of the BESS.
It said this art initiative will bring awareness to the importance of BESS projects and is part of a broader BESS artwork initiative.
Andrew Waranch, founder and chief executive officer, Spearmint, said: “The Spearmint team is proud to create a unique art initiative that unifies industrial, grid-scale batteries and captivating mural artwork at an unprecedented scale. We believe public art is a tool for communicating shared values, and it is our hope that this initiative will serve as a conduit for global unity around the critical need for safe and dependable power. Battery storage infrastructure is revolutionizing energy availability and reliability globally, and we are proud to be advancing the shift to clean power at our aptly named project, Revolution, and across our portfolio of BESS projects nationwide.”
