Swiss battery firm Leclanche announced a world first for its lithium-ion titanate battery after signing a deal to supply systems for street light applications.
The deal with Octo Energy, in Saudi Arabia, is one of two major new contracts for Leclanche’s Speciality Battery Systems Business Unit.
Leclanché has already delivered 200 battery modules for the off-grid street lighting masts designed and developed by Leclanche’s long-term partner Scotia.
The Leclanché LTO cells enable the system to work from -20°C to 55°C.
The other deal, by Leclanché’s Belgium unit, formed as a result of the recent acquisition of Trineuron, is for a battery order for battery storage systems in the Automatic Guided Vehicles sector.
Leclanché is currently undergoing a transformation from battery cell producer to sophisticated energy storage systems with a software-and-services-led vertically integrated business model.
