India’s Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd. and Kohler Power Systems of the US have launched a new range of diesel and gas generator sets for the Indian market.
The Indian company has signed an agreement with Kohler, under which Su-Kam will market and distribute diesel and gas generators manufactured at the latter’s plant in Aurangabad. Under the agreement, the company will offer diesel generators ranging from 2.5kVA to 12.5kVA, while the gas generators will come in ratings of 14kVA and 20kVA. The company’s main focus initially would be on residential clients for both product lines.
According to Su-Kam, this new range is a combination of inverter and gen-sets, and will be an attractive option for those sectors that are interested in installing both inverter and gensets to meet their power back-up needs, for example, buildings running on solar power. The company has released the first product in this new series which is of a 5kVA diesel and 14kW gas gensets.
“Our products are highly efficient and effective under critical power situation, due to the extremely helpful graphic user interface. Kohler India Corporation has formed a strategic collaboration with Su-Kam on the concept of customized solution based on a combination of inverter and genset is introduced in India. This concept is already working at Bharti Wall Mart’s Easy Day outlets,” says Mr Kunwar Sachdev, Managing Director of Su-Kam.
According to the company press release, the genset, the smallest in its category comes with no external exhaust, hence forms an ideal power back-up solution. The USP of the product is its graphic user interface which regularly updates the user on the voltage, frequency and current being supplied to the load. It also prevents blackouts by regularly updating the user on the fuel level, engine temperature, battery voltage, engine oil pressure.

Su-Kam has recently launched a unique door to door service, “Su-Buddy on Wheels” where the consumers can now receive faster service at their doorsteps. Under this initiative, more than 100 service vans have been deployed to faster the service. Kohler India Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kohler Co., headquartered in the United States, is the third largest generator manufacturer worldwide. Kohler is a global manufacturer of power generation equipment for residential, industrial, mobile and marine applications, with a power output range of 3.5kW to 3250kW.
Meanwhile, Kohler Power Systems, a manufacturer and marketer of generators, automatic transfer switches and switchgear has acquired Maquigeral, a generator company with headquarters in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“We were persuaded to invest in Brazil because of its strong economic potential and a growing need for primary and backup power systems,” said Herbert Kohler Jr., chairman and CEO of Kohler Company, parent company of Kohler Power Systems. “Maquigeral represents an excellent building block in South America.”
Maquigeral will be managed by SDMO, Kohler’s French subsidiary, which has grown dramatically in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to the company. Initially, the company will focus on Brazil by increasing the product range and introducing additional technology into the current product offering, Kohler said.
Current Maquigeral executive Sandra Battistella will continue as general manager, reporting to Jean-Marie Soula, managing director of SDMO. Georges LeGall, SDMO’s director of engineering, will relocate to Brazil and serve as the deputy general manager.
