Energy company TagEnergy said construction commenced on a 49MW/98MWh standalone energy storage system near Abernethy, Scotland.
The Jamesfield development is a joint venture with Harmony Energy. TagEnergy, which is controlled by the Impala SAS Group, took a 60% stake in the project in November 2021. Santander UK is supporting the initiative with £12.5m funding from the bank.
Jamesfield will use a system of Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries, together with Tesla’s Autobidder AI software for real-time trading and control. TagEnergy said it expects the system to be operational in Q4 2023. Renewable energy company RES will be asset manager.
Franck Woitiez, Chief Executive Officer of TagEnergy, said this is TagEnergy’s third battery energy storage facility in the UK.
TagEnergy was formed in 2019 and has a portfolio of close to 4GW based on solar, wind and battery storage technologies in the UK, Portugal, Spain, France and Australia. Its first renewable energy project to go online, Hawkers Hill Energy Park battery storage facility in the UK, began operating in 2022.
