Tesvolt begins first stage of its European lithium-ion ESS manufacturing plant despite Covid-19

Energy storage manufacturer Tesvolt began semi-automated production of its commercial lithium-ion systems in Wittenberg, Germany, on 1 April

The production process is semi-automated full-cycling, with every battery module fully charged and discharged and checked for anomalies in terms of temperature, voltage and internal resistance.

German lead battery maker Moll blames sales drop caused by coronavirus for insolvency after 75 years

German lead-acid battery maker Moll Batterien has opened insolvency proceedings after 75 years of operation due to the “sudden, massive, and permanent” decline in sales caused by the corona crisis.

The 75-year-old company applied to the Coburg District Court for the opening of insolvency proceedings on Monday, 30 March. The company made EFB, AGM and VRLA starter batteries for automotive applications, and had recently launched a 12.8V lithium iron phosphate battery.

Coronavirus forces French lead-acid battery recycler to scale-down operations

The coronavirus has forced Recylex is reduce operations at its French used lead-acid battery recycling plants to maintenance, reception and expedition of planned deliveries until further notice starting 23 March.

For the time being the French firms other battery recycling operations at its Germany plant Harz-Metall is unaffected. The plant collects and recycles around 50,000 tons of lead-acid batteries a year.

Coronavirus impact on lithium-ion industry to be felt for at least another year

The outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19 is putting China lithium-ion manufacturers into the ‘high risk’ supplier and production category. 

Industry analysts Wood Mackenzie predict a drop of 10% (26GWh) in lithium-ion battery production in China, with the Hubei province most impacted by the outbreak.
