Mercedes teams up with power provider to deploy grid-scale ESS

Swiss power provider Alpiq and Mercedes-Benz Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler, have signed a deal to deliver a 1.5MW/1.4 MWh energy storage system using electric vehicle batteries.

In its role of general contractor, Alpiq will supply the energy management system and is responsible for the planning, installation and sales of the system

Sino-German partners plan Beijing’s ‘first second-life ESS plant’

Global vehicle OEM brands Daimler and China’s state-owned BAIC Group have entered into a development partnership to establish Beijing’s first second-life energy storage system facility.

The firms plan to use retired electric car batteries from BAIC’s subsidiary Beijing Electric Vehicle (BJEV).

Daimler, Mitsui in 2nd life Li-ion cash boost

German carmaker Daimler AG and Japanese chemicals firm Mitsui & Co., Ltd., are investing in moves to ramp up the development of second use lithium-ion battery storage.

Daimler said it is acquiring a minority stake in German energy services company, The Mobility House AG (TMH), while Mitsui confirmed it too has “made an investment”.
