East Penn buys into lithium-ion market in bid to expand motive power offering

North American lead-acid giant East Penn Manufacturing has reaffirmed its intention of moving into the lithium-ion market with the purchase of a majority interest in Navitas Systems.

The move allows East Penn to expand its motive power battery offering and  ‘strategic integration’ into other market segments in a bid to provide a wider range of energy storage system solutions.

Voltabox to acquire Navitas in move on US lithium market

Germany-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Voltabox is set to acquire US battery tech firm Navitas Systems for US$43 million.

Voltabox, majority-owned by private equity company Paragon, said the move will increase its North American market access and give it entry into the production of highly specialised battery cells.

Navitas adds “customised” lithium cell line for US military

US lithium battery storage company Navitas Systems has installed a new automated cells production line at its Michigan facility to “optimise custom cell manufacturing” for the country’s military.

Navitas said it is working with the aerospace and defence company Lockheed Martin to bring “higher-performing” lithium products to the US Navy— because “the US military has had limited battery options” as many lithium cell suppliers are based in “adversary countries”.

Appointments set to boost production chain at Navitas

Battery systems firm Navitas Systems is aiming to bolster its engineering and manufacturing capabilities with a number of high-level appointments.

The US company named States Mead as its new Vice President of Manufacturing, Director of Engineering, and Global Supply Chain Manager.

Mead will be in charge of overall production, quality, engineering, warehouse and equipment.

New Director of Engineering Chad Hartzog is charged with overseeing both battery hardware and software development within Navitas’ Engineering team.

Paul Corby joins Navitas as Global Supply Chain Manager, where he will oversee all procurement, fulfillment and supply chain logistics.
