Redflow and carbonTRACK collaborate to bring flow battery VPPs to South Africa

Australian firms Redflow and carbonTRACK have announced an agreement to create virtual power plants (VPP) using zinc-bromine flow batteries.

The partnership will enable end-users to use intelligent control algorithms to optimise the benefits of flow batteries by tailoring the total power system to individual needs

Redflow to supply batteries for South African telecoms towers

Australian flow battery producer Redflow has won an order to supply five of their zinc-bromine units to provide standby energy storage for remote telecoms towers in South Africa.

The sale was made through Redflow’s long-term South African partner, Specialized Solar Systems (SSS), which Redflow said it has worked with to enable its batteries to serve as standby power systems (SPS).

Primus Power flow battery to be installed at US DoD airbase

The base at Mirimar, California has hopes to become energy self-sufficient

Primus Power has won a contract to supply a 250kW 1MWh zinc-bromine flow battery to a Department of Defense Marine Corps Air Station in California. 

The project is part of the DoD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Programme’s Zinc Bromide Flow Battery Installation for Islanding and Backup Power project.
