Mironovsky Hleboproduct (MHP), Ukraine’s largest agricultural holding, has confirmed it plans to build the country’s first large-scale energy storage system.
The 25MW ESS will built in the city of Ladyzhin of the Vinnitsa region (West-Central Ukraine) and will be part of the energy cluster MHP established within the region.
The system will be connected to the electric grid to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies to local production facilities, that may take place on the basis of smart grid technologies..
Direct implementation of the project will be carried out by MHP Eco Energy PJSC, MHP’s energy subsidiary.
Construction work is expected begin in the coming weeks, while the whole project is expected to be implemented in four stages.
Financial details of the project are not disclosed.
Alexander Dombrovsky, president of MHP Eco Energy, said the project had a particular importance for the company and the whole country.
He said the Ukraine needs to reduce its dependence from coal and other similar energy sources and modernise its energy infrastructure beginning with more active development of technologies of energy storage and smart grid. This is especially important taking into account the existing traditional energy shortage in Ukraine (due to limited domestic reserves) and its high cost.
In the meantime, representatives of the Ukranian national government said they support implementation of the project, believing that in addition to MHP, the establishment of similar ESS may be of interest of to other leading Ukranian business.
