US vanadium flow battery firm UniEnergy Technologies (UET) has appointed a new senior vice president of global sales as it continues to push the energy storage technology as an alternative to lithium-ion.
Blake Frye will drive global sales of UET’s containerised energy storage solution technology, which already accounts for around 80MWh of deployment.
He will be charged with accelerating UET’s sales in the fast growing grid-scale sector of the energy storage industry where flow batteries account for a total of 1GWh of global deployment to date.
Frye was previously vice president of sales for Saft America, worked at battery firm Energiser, and holds three US patents.
“It is clear the advanced vanadium flow batteries developed at UET and now deployed at megawatt-scale are an industry game-changer,” said Frye.
“Customers are looking for safe, plug-and-play, fully containerised systems that provide the full range of power and energy applications without degradation or duty cycle limitations.”
Rick Winter, UET’s president and chief operating officer, said the energy storage industry was growing at a rapid pace, and the firm’s fade-free flow batteries were the right technology to capture a sizable share of the accelerating market for long duration energy storage.
