German renewables firm Younicos is opening a headquarters and building a technology centre in North America to house its growing business units.
The Berlin intelligent grid-scale energy storage solutions company signed a long-term lease for a 32,500 square feet facility in Austin, Texas.
The Younicos Technology Center will house state-of-the-art hardware, including various battery technologies, inverters and power controls, as well as power lines and transmission interconnections.
It will allow the company’s to perform energy system testing under real-world conditions.
Almost one-third of the company’s near 100 megawatts of installed storage capacity has been in the U.S. state – including the wind-integrated energy storage site, Notrees Wind Farm, in West Texas.
James McDougall, CEO of Younicos, said: “Beginning this summer, all three Younicos business units – Technology, Development and Consulting, will work under one roof.”
