Renewable energy company Zelestra, and energy storage system firm Sungrow have formed a partnership to deploy lithium-ion battery storage at a renewable energy project in Chile.
Sungrow will supply its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled Battery Energy Storage System and its MV Power Conversion Units for the project.
The BESS units combine a 5MWh LFP-powered battery with a 2.5MW power conversion system (PCS) in a standard 20-foot container.
Delivery of the systems is due to begin in Q4 of this year.
The system will form part of the hybrid Aurora scheme in Tarapacá, Chile, which also includes a 220MWdc solar plant, which uses Sungrow’s 1+X Modular Inverter.
Construction has begun at Aurora, which is expected to generate around 600GWh of renewable electricity per year. The project will provide Chilean energy company Abastible a guaranteed supply of solar energy via a long-term power purchase agreement.
Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra said: “With this major agreement, we have secured some of the most advanced BESS technology available in the market to deliver one the largest battery storage projects ever in Latin America. This is an important milestone for the Aurora project, as we advance towards the delivery of this highly customised hybrid solution that will meet the needs of our customer, Abastible.”
