The joint venture, called The Hyundai Cummins Engine Co, will manufacture engines at an annual capacity of more than 50 000 engines. Production of the engines will commence in 2014 at a new facility based in Daegu, South Korea.

The facility will produce engines that meet the emissions levels equivalent to the USA’s Environmental Protection Agency tier 2 and 3 regulations.

Rich Freeland, Vice President of Cummins, said of the venture: “I am delighted to announce our new engine joint venture with Hyundai, one of the most highly respected companies in the global construction equipment industry and for many years an important customer of Cummins off-highway business.”

Freeland added he hoped the partnership would bring a closer working relationship with Hyundai that would be mutually beneficial to both companies.
