Nexeon adds ‘Spice’ to silicon tech research

UK-based battery materials firm Nexeon is leading a project to optimise coating technology for its silicon material to boost the performance of battery cells.

Nexeon said the ‘Spice’ (Silicon Product Improvement through Coating Enhancement) project aims to extend the system compatibility of silicon anode materials, “allowing use of lower cost electrolyte formulations and lower overall battery cell costs”.

Microporous partners China’s Zisun for AGM separators

US-based lead-acid separator firm Microporous has agreed a global partnership deal with Chinese micro-glass fibre firm Zisun Technology to manufacture, develop and distribute AGM battery separators.

Microporous said the deal would see it add AGM separators to its product portfolio and combine “leading expertise in lead-acid battery chemistry and separator engineering with high-end micro glass fibre and related wet laid technologies”.

A Scotland-based lithium cell maker has joined a consortium of firms that aims to become the centre for next generation battery packs in the UK that will be developed ‘from powder to power’.

AGM Batteries, based in Thurso, makes advanced chargeable and non-rechargeable lithium-ion cells.

Faradion partners AGM Batteries to commercialise sodium technology

Battery developer Faradion will partner UK-based lithium-ion cell developer and manufacturer AGM Batteries to produce sodium-ion.

The joint R&D partnership is the first step in English firm Faradion’s plans to scale up production of its sodium-ion batteries at AGM Batteries' 4,000 m2 production facility in Caithness, Scotland.
