Second Korean collaboration for BMZ Group

Germany’s BMZ Group and South Korea’s Samsung SDI have entered a long-term cooperation agreement to jointly promote the expansion of electromobile applications in the European market.

Karlstein-based BMZ said Samsung SDI, “one of the world's largest cell manufacturers, will rely in the future on BMZ as system supplier for battery systems, integration and software”.

BMZ selects new US Headquarters in Virginia Beach

German lithium-ion manufacturer BMZ has selected a new location in Virginia Beach, where it is currently headquartered, to expand its manufacturing operations.

BMZ— a “global leader of lithium-ion battery and charging systems”— opened its US headquarters at a 16,500 sq. ft. facility on Lishelle Road, Virginia Beach in 2011.

BMZ takes control of TerraE to launch German cell production ‘by 2020’

Lithium-ion developer and producer BMZ has taken control of German peer TerraE Holding, in a move to cement Germany’s position as a future leader in European battery cell manufacturing.

BMZ, which describes itself as Europe’s largest producer of lithium-ion battery systems, said taking majority ownership was part of plans to launch battery cells production in Germany by 2020.

BMZ ‘secures cells supply’ with LG Chem deal

German lithium-ion battery developer and producer BMZ has signed a long-term battery cells supply deal with South Korea’s LG Chem.

BMZ said the contract covered supplies of “over a few hundred million cells” by the end of 2022 for products in the electro mobility and energy storage markets.

BMZ China invests to expand battery operations

German lithium-ion battery developer and producer BMZ is relocating its China operations in Shenzhen to new premises in the city as it expands operations.

The group’s 100%-owned BMZ China subsidiary is investing around EUR7 million ($8.5m) in the new, 35,000 square metre facility— which is three times the size of the current plant, BBB has confirmed.

BMZ eyes Japan tie-up for cell production

German lithium-ion battery developer and producer BMZ is considering partnering with a Japanese company to launch a battery cell production plant in Europe, BBB can reveal.

BMZ founder and managing director Sven Bauer (pictured) said the move is a “serious option” for the company “and makes sense”, as it seeks to widen its supply chain and production capabilities.

€45m investment to boost Li-ion battery output

German lithium-ion battery supplier BMZ GmbH is quadrupling its R&D and manufacturing capacities as it looks to tackle demand in the next five years.

It is part of a €45million, five-year investment schedule the intelligent battery solutions supplier has entered into as it aims to build 80 million li-ion batteries by 2020.
