Nissan tests Leaf EV battery storage in Brazil

Nissan is partnering with a university in Brazil to study the potential for used electric vehicle (EV) batteries to power energy storage systems in the country.

The Japanese car maker’s business in Brazil has signed a memorandum of intent (pictured) with the Federal University of Santa Catarina for (UFSC) to “test solutions and future applications” for the lithium-ion systems.

Renault sets up energy service subsidiary

French car giant Renault has launched a new subsidiary to invest in the development of secondary use of electric vehicle batteries (EV) for stationary energy storage and smart charging networks.

The new division, Renault Energy Services (RES), said it will research “vehicle-to-grid interaction to expand electric mobility and develop smart grids”.

China’s CATL ‘plans Europe battery plant’

Chinese lithium-ion battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd (CATL) is to open a production base in Europe, according to state media.

China’s Xinhua News Agency said CATL is “planning to build a new plant in Europe to meet the rising demand of the continent” for electric vehicle batteries.
