European partners launch German BESS

A 22MW lithium-ion energy storage system has been inaugurated in Germany by a European consortium.

Italy’s Enel Green Power (EGP), German renewables company Enertrag and Swiss battery maker Leclanché launched the €17 million (US$19m) BESS at Cremzow, 102km northeast of Berlin, on 16 May.

Battery makers sign up for BESS safety taskforce

Manufacturers and users of battery storage systems have backed an industry-led initiative in the US to “prioritise safety” in the production and operation of equipment.

The move came amidst on going concerns about the risk of fires from lithium batteries and cells— and just days before an explosion at a grid-scale battery storage facility in the US.

Enel partnership to build battery storage in Germany

Plans to build a 22MW lithium-ion battery storage plant online in Germany in April have been announced by the renewables subsidiary of Italian energy giant Enel.

Enel Green Power (EGP) has signed a contract with German wind developer Enertrag and Swiss battery maker Leclanché to build and operate the lithium-ion battery in Cremzow.
