Gravita launches Ghana lead production plant

Indian lead producer and recycler Gravita has launched commercial production of lead from a subsidiary operation in Ghana, West Africa.

Recycler Ghana Limited said the US$3.1 million Ghana facility has an initial production capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). An additional 6,000 MTPA capacity is set to come on stream at the plant from July 2019.

Gravita launches lead production in Tanzania

Indian lead producer and recycler Gravita has started commercial production of lead from its new battery scrap recycling plant in Tanzania, East Africa.

The company said its Gravita Tanzania subsidiary has a production capacity of around 3,000 metric tonnes per annum and the facility is the group’s first “export oriented recycling plant” in the country.

Indian lead producer and exporter Gravita has revealed proposals to open nine new lead battery scrap sourcing centres in Africa— to feed its expanding recycling operations on the continent and boost the group’s bottom line.

The move comes just weeks after Gravita said it was expanding its lead-acid battery scrap processing operations overseas with two new facilities in Africa— in Ghana and Tanzania.

Gravita has now received relevant licences to run both African facilities, which are expected to start up this month.

Indian lead producer and exporter Gravita has confirmed plans to expand its lead-acid battery scrap processing operations overseas with two new facilities in Africa.

Gravita said it has acquired land for a plant in Ghana and “construction activities are in process” with a view to starting operations by March 2019.

Indian lead giant Gravita joins ILA

The Jaipur arm of Indian lead producer and exporter Gravita has become the first Indian business to join the International Lead Association (ILA).

Gravita’s Jaipur-based lead smelting operation, recycles used lead batteries and aluminium scrap to produce a range of quality metals and metal alloys, together with a range of plastic by-products.

Gravita signs ‘sustainable’ lead deal with Amara Raja

Indian lead producer and exporter Gravita has signed a recycling agreement with the country’s industrial and automotive battery producer Amara Raja Batteries.

The contract for lead-acid battery scrap collection and recycling was part of a “joint initiative toward environmental protection and sustainability”, Gravita said in a National Stock Exchange of India announcement.

India’s Gravita gets Luminous lead order

Indian lead battery recycling group Gravita has won an order worth around $46 million from lead-acid manufacturer Luminous Power Technologies.

Gravita, which is also one of the country’s largest lead producers, did not respond to BBB’s request for details of the order to India-based Luminous— part of the Schneider Electric group.
