Korea sanctions investment to develop 300Wh/kg lithium-ion battery

Korea is set to invest 43 billion won ($38.4 million) in a bid to double the energy density of lithium-ion batteries for the electric vehicle market by 2020, according to reports.

Developers plan to produce a 300Wh/kg battery, news outlet Korea Joongang Daily reported the country’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy as saying.

A jury has found online shopping company Amazon guilty of shipping potentially dangerous lithium-ion batteries on planes.

The jury at London's Southwark Crown Court found the company guilty of offences under the Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 2002.

US deployment of energy storage up— as California slips down rankings

Deployment of energy storage rose slightly in the US with lithium-ion projects by utilities continuing to dominate the market.

The US deployed 41.2 MW of energy storage in Q2 2016 (up 1% year-on-year), with behind-the-meter deployments increasing 3% from Q1, according to GTM Research and the Energy Storage Association (ESA).

Joint venture to make better battery management system

Lithium-ion smart energy cells manufacturer Oakridge Global Energy Solutions has established a joint venture with a Japanese firm to make battery management systems.

The US based company, which makes cells for military, civilian and medical applications, will work with Toyo-System to design and manufacture BMSs for its Generation 2 Smart Energy Cell.
