Samsung starts EV Li-ion battery production in Austria

Work is set to begin at Samsung SDI Battery Systems (SDIBS) lithium-ion battery plant following the Korean firm’s official opening ceremony.

The company will begin operations to manufacturer EV batteries for the European, American and Chinese markets at the plant in Graz, Austria.

Evonik Litarion has signed its first lithium-ion deal since it was purchased by Canada’s Electrovaya.

The deal will see the Canadian firm’s subsidiary supply Leclanche with graphite NMC lithium-ion electrodes.

The first commercially available lithium-ion based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being produced by a U.S. company.

Lithium-ion battery pack manufacturer Palladium Energy is being merged with ICCNexergy after both companies were bought by a private-equity firm.

Headquartered in the Chicago area with a working name of ICCNexergy+Palladium, it will eventually be rebranded and renamed.

BCI calls for Pb-A and Li-ion recycling system

A method for identifying recycled lithium-ion batteries must be introduced to stop fires and explosions at secondary lead smelters, Battery Council International members were told during its annual conference.

With more than 99% of lead-acid batteries recycled the danger comes when they are mixed with lithium-ion batteries and put through the plant’s crushers.
