The UK government is supporting a project by Cornish Lithium and Geothermal Engineering to construct a geothermal lithium recovery pilot plant— as Europe begins to move its battery material focus away from China.

The project aims to demonstrate that lithium can be produced from UK geothermal waters with a net zero carbon footprint.

Standard Lithium begins commissioning stage of industrial-scale lithium carbonate crystallisation plant

Battery material development company Standard Lithium has begun the commissioning phase of its industrial-scale lithium carbonate crystallisation pilot plant in Canada. 

The plant will produce material used by manufacturers in the lithium-ion battery supply chain from lithium chloride solution produced through its LiSTR direct lithium extraction process.

Neo Lithium minimises environmental impact of producing battery grade lithium carbonate

Neo Lithium has produced battery grade lithium carbonate at its pilot plant in Fiambalá, Argintina.

Using concentrated brine, lithium carbonate was produced at 99.599% purity using a process the company says may decrease operational and capital costs while minimising reagent, water and power consumption.

Thai solid-state lithium-ion pilot manufacturing plant to target ASEAN market

Thailand’s first semi-solid lithium-ion battery pilot plant is to be built within 10 months after a deal was signed by two of the country’s firms.

Energy firm Global Power Synergy Public Company (GPSC) and Thai Takasago Company have signed a contract to build the THB1.1 billion ($35 million) plant in the Rayong province of the country.

Vehicle OEM Volkswagen Group has taken the first steps toward a large-scale lithium-ion battery production line with the opening of a pilot plant in Germany.

The pilot line for battery cell assembly has begun producing lithium-ion cells at VW's Center of Excellence in Salzgitter, Lower-Saxony.

American Manganese to begin final tests on recovered NCA cathode material

American Manganese has begun the final testing stages on NCA (nickel cobalt aluminium) cathode materials at its RecycLiCo™ pilot plant – the company’s  proprietary innovation that recycles materials from lithium-ion batteries.

Tests results in July by the company’s independent research contractor Kemetco Research reported 99.93% purity results using recovered NMC pregnant leach solution following stages 3 and 4.

Lithium Australia makes play for battery cathode tech

Lithium Australia (LIT) has made a conditional bid to acquire Brisbane battery cathode developer Very Small Particle Company Ltd (VSPC).

The proposed acquisition includes a decommissioned pilot plant for the production of complex metal oxides/phosphates for cathode production.

Australian firm moves closer to vanadium flow battery

Materials company Australian Vanadium’s (AVL) vertical integration model has moved a step closer after its first flow battery left the factory and work on its pilot plant began.

Installation and commissioning of Western Australia’s first vanadium flow battery is due in September after the battery left GILDEMEISTER’s Austrian factory last week.
