Audi battery fire risk prompts E-Tron recall in US

German car manufacturer Audi is recalling its first all-electric vehicle rolled out in the US— the ‘E-Tron’— due to the risk of battery fires.

A spokesperson for the company, which is owned by Volkswagen, told BEST Battery Briefing “moisture could, in very rare cases, enter the high-voltage battery through the low-voltage wiring via the charging-socket grommet, due to production tolerances in the manufacturing of wiring harnesses”.

Amazon recalls Li-ion power bank chargers

Amazon has recalled around 260,000 of its own-brand lithium-ion power bank chargers amid warnings that the battery can “overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards”.

The recall came after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said there had been 53 reports of the China-made power banks (pictured) overheating in the US— including one report of chemical burns due to contact with battery acid and four reports of property damage, including fire and smoke damage.
