US battery equipment design and technology firm Wirtz Manufacturing officially launched its Ready To Run (RTR) lead-acid battery breaking and separation system last week.

The ‘plug-and-play’ system was launched through the Port Huron-based firms Battery Recycling Systems arm and introduced during the secondary lead conference in Indonesia by the company’s director of Engineering, Robert Wirtz.

The system is housed in a 40ft-shipping container and is able to separate the battery into metallic lead, lead oxide, separators and polypropelene.

The skid mounted system is able to process 1-24 metric tonnes per day, and can be up and running within 24 hours of delivery.

Wirtz told BEST Battery Briefing: “Our newly developed RTR model is a fantastic small-scale, complete assembly breaking and separation system, which eliminates the typical onsite costs of installation, electrical, plumbing, lengthy start-up, etc. by delivering a ready to run, fully assembled skid mounted system that can be started in a day after arriving at your facility.”

US lead-acid battery equipment company Wirtz Manufacturing has made an undisclosed investment in nickel-zinc developer ZAF Energy Systems.

Wirtz said the move would allow ZAF to build a full production line at its facility in Joplin, in the US state of Missouri— “expanding its manufacturing capacity to thousands of batteries per month”.

Funds and equipment from the investment will be used to expand ZAF’s nickel-zinc batteries globally and demonstrate the first ever prismatic high-volume nickel-zinc (NiZn) process, Wirtz said.
