The battery maker subsidiary of BYD, Findreams, is the latest Chinese battery company committing to reach carbon neutrality by 2045.
“Recently, Findreams unveiled its goal of achieving full value chain carbon neutrality by 2045, which is an important step in our environmental and sustainability efforts and a strong belief in the future application of green energy technologies,” the company said in a statement, reported CNEVPost.
It said to reach its carbon neutrality goal it would establish a carbon emission management system, with a committee and emissions reduction department managing this. It would gradually promote the use of green electricity in all parks and build zero-carbon demonstration parks and factories, according to the report.
It would also build a supply chain carbon management platform and develop low-carbon materials and processes. China announced carbon reduction targets in September 2020. The aim is peak CO2 emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
BYD is the world’s second-largest battery maker, with a 15.8% share in 2023, according to research released on 7 February by South Korean market researcher SNE Research. CATL is world number one, with a 36.8% share last year.
Last April, fellow Chinese company CATL issued a commitment saying it aims to achieve carbon neutrality in core operations by 2025 and in its value chain by 2035. Gotion High-Tech, also Chinese, reportedly announced in February plans for a low-carbon technology institute in Hong Kong.
Earlier this month, EV equipment supplier BorgWarner of the US announced it would be Findreams’ preferred manufacturer of LFP battery packs for commercial vehicle markets (class 3 and above) in Europe, the Americas and parts of Asia Pacific.
