Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has signed an agreement with electric scooter maker Ather Energy to develop and supply NMC and LFP lithium-ion cells for two-wheeler battery packs. These cells will be produced at Amara Raja’s upcoming gigafactory in Telangana.
Analysts said the partnership gives Amara Raja a big step from lead-acid batteries into lithium-ion and the EV market.
Indian news site the Machine Maker reported that the pair will work together with Amara Raja producing NMC and LFP cells at the 16GWh plant once built. Ather Energy is expanding its electric scooter production and is planning to go public next year.
Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, told reporters: “This will help us optimise costs and source lithium-ion cells tailored to Ather’s needs, enhancing our ability to innovate and scale.”
