Indian cell manufacturer Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT ) has signed a technical licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia, a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co.
GIB EnergyX will license Gotion’s LFP technology for lithium-ion cells to ARACT under the agreement.
Amara Raja said the agreement allows it to manufacture “world class” cylindrical and prismatic LFP. The licensing provides access to cell technology IP, support in establishing a gigafactory conforming to the latest process technologies, integration with Gotion’s global supply chain network for critical battery materials, and customer technical support.
No financial details were disclosed. Amara Raja and Gotion are both shareholders and board members of Inobat, a start-up lithium battery technology company in Slovakia supported with European Union funding.
Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Executive Director Vikramadithya Gourineni said: “We have invested a lot of time and effort over the past few years to understand the global new energy landscape and made a calculated decision to be a part of the evolving lithium battery ecosystem through our investment in Inobat.”
The company is also involved in energy storage, lead-acid battery manufacture (Amaron is its flagship lead-acid battery), lithium-ion cell production and battery pack assembly, plus EV chargers.
